The setup
The law is brutal and simple: lay a hand on the queen and you pay with your life. Kale was shoveling stalls until the Queensguard needed a body, and he's the recruit nobody asked for. He's about to learn why he was chosen. In episode 1 the queen asks his name, then assigns him to guard her bedchamber, starting tonight. She explains the pick in a single line: he is the one guard who meets her gaze. She also notes that the law forbids him from touching her, and stays quiet on her touching him. Episode 2 closes the door, hands him her crown to hold and warns that dropping it is treason. Tomorrow the court picks her husband.

Where most of the collection plays out in living rooms and hotel hallways, this one has a castle, candlelit corridors, a ceremonial crown and a power imbalance that runs backward: the queen is the aggressor and the guard has everything to lose.
