Vampire's Lust

The setup

He's a decent guy giving a stranger a lift, and the stranger is a woman alone on a dark road at three in the morning, phone dead, rattled by a man who wouldn't take no. She refuses the police and asks him to stay close through the night, so they check into a roadside motel. Episode 1 plays like a rescue. Episode 2 undoes it. There are two beds, a clerk with opinions, and a very married man trying to keep his promises while she says odd things about how he smells of the road. This is a vampire story, and she has lived long enough to recognize a lonely man.

Why it earns its number

Most monster stories hide the monster. This one lets her flirt in plain sight, wrapped in a damsel routine, and the fun is watching the hero's good manners lose to something far older. Lean, nocturnal and hungry, with a wedding ring doing most of the dramatic work.

Who should collect it: For fans of dark romance after midnight, where the damsel in the passenger seat is the most dangerous thing on the road.
