The setup
Riley hauls her boyfriend Jack out of bed and into the car to meet Regina, her stepmother, after two years apart. On the way she rehearses his best qualities, then oversells them at the party: college is chaos, but Jack once made a two-hour drive with a coffee in hand. Regina takes it all in with a smile that lingers on him. By the end of episode 1 there's dancing, and Regina has noticed exactly what her stepdaughter keeps bragging about. Episode 2 is a spilled drink, a request for help with the stain, and a door Riley opens at the wrong moment. Jack's evening gets complicated fast.
Why it earns its number
The step-family shelf has plenty of stepmoms, but this one starts as a warm reunion and tilts so gradually you notice only when it's too late. Riley keeps unknowingly writing the sales pitch for her own rival. Polite on the surface, rude in the best way underneath.
Who should collect it: For anyone who loves the awkward family-dinner version of temptation, where everyone is very polite and nobody should be.
