The setup
Slade arrives at a beach house for the summer break with his college girlfriend Gretchen, and meeting her family goes sideways at the first handshake. Her stepmom Holly looks far too good to be anybody's stepmom, and her father Hunter is still deciding whether he likes the boyfriend. Episode 1 introduces the house, the rules (there are none) and Gretchen's best friend Brittany, who asks a loaded question about whether he remembers her. Episode 2 supplies the answer: they have all crossed paths before, in a night-out story Holly would rather her husband never hear, so a pact gets made. Then it's off to the boardwalk, where Gretchen refuses to board the Ferris wheel and Holly ends up riding it with Slade.
Why it earns its number
Stepmom, MILF, Cheating wives and Taboo all meet in one boardwalk summer. What sets it apart is the secret-keeping engine: nobody in the house is quite who they claim to be, Holly's past is the currency, and the beach town gives every near miss a postcard to hide behind.
Who should collect it: For anyone who wants a beach read with a secret, a stepmom who runs the room and a Ferris wheel.
