Courtney's Secret

The setup

A man moves to a new city for a fresh start and rents from a landlord named Jamie. The first person he notices, though, is Jamie's wife, Courtney, who arrives with a smile, a helpful hand and a bit of soap on his arm. Jamie is cheerful about the whole thing: they look after newcomers around here, he says. Courtney's narration hints that pity for her was the wrong reaction, and that the new tenant is the one who should be worried. In episode 2 a neighbor named Nicole, who lives nearby, drops by to say hello, claims Courtney has mentioned him, and finds a reason to stay.

Why it earns its number

The street itself is the supporting cast: every neighbor is friendlier than the last, and the mood shifts from cozy to conspiratorial one hello at a time. It earns its place among MILF, Taboo and Nympho for the sense that everyone knows something he doesn't.

Who should collect it: For viewers who like their small-town hospitality with a wink, and the nagging feeling that the welcome committee has an agenda.
