My Girlfriend's Mom Needs A Ride

The setup

Kayla asks her boyfriend for a favor: give her mom Diana a lift home from work. Forty minutes of small talk later, Diana is calling him her knight and he is wondering why the drive felt so short. Episode 1 ends with a loaded invitation and a request: her car is at the garage for days, so pick her up tomorrow, and don't mention it to Kayla. Episode 2 brings the pickup, six o'clock sharp outside her office. Diana remarks that Kayla's career leaves a man lonely, and there's a husband somewhere who apparently doesn't matter.

Why it earns its number

The car is the confessional, the clock is the countdown and tomorrow's pickup is the cliffhanger. It plays a simple repeat-and-escalate game that makes each drive feel different. It belongs to none of the named sets, which suits a story about the most ordinary favor imaginable going wrong in the nicest possible way.

Who should collect it: For anyone who enjoys a slow-escalation story where the commute is the whole plot and politeness is the weapon.
