My First Night Shift

The setup

A first night on the job at an elegant old hotel, and the new night manager is told to relax and stay behind the front desk while a colleague named Sloane gets called upstairs. No other men are working tonight. Then a call comes in from room eight oh eight for room service, a dessert plate, and he's handed the tray. The guest wasn't calling for dessert. She ordered him. Episode 2 keeps the tray rolling: a woman making herself more comfortable, an invitation to join her, and a manager who can't believe his luck, so he goes for it.

Why it earns its number

Where most hotel stories pick one room, this one gives the new hire a whole corridor, a different encounter behind each door, and a newcomer's nerves as the through line. It's the nearest the shelf comes to an anthology night with one very nervous host.

Who should collect it: For anyone who loves new-job-nerves comedy, with a hotel after midnight and a very forward guest list.
