Yes Professor

The setup

Mrs. Bree Whitlock teaches English, and one of her students has failed to focus for a reason she knows exactly. After class she keeps him behind, sets one rule and watches him obey it. Episode 1 is a masterclass in glances: he stares, she notices, and the session ends with an offer of private tutoring at nine o'clock sharp. In episode 2 he arrives a little late, and the rule gets enforced during a reading aloud that she will not let him look away from. She lets slip that her husband assumes she is up late with coursework, and the stakes quietly double. Every instruction has the same answer.

Why it earns its number

Two words carry this entire series. The power play runs on one rule, one reply and a professor who never needs to raise her voice. The pace is slow, controlled and teacherly, and Bree Whitlock is one of the most self-possessed characters on the shelf.

Who should collect it: For anyone who likes their tension quiet, controlled and delivered after class, one polite answer at a time.
