Mum Got Sick On Our Holiday

The setup

The holiday starts well enough, apart from a bad prawn that sends his wife to bed for the week. Her last request is that he keep her daughter Harriet entertained, and Harriet has plenty of ideas about what that means. Episode 1: the stepdad becomes her suncream assistant, she praises his hands a little too long and, when her mother calls, lies for him badly. They decide a curtained VIP bed by the pool is the sensible way to escape the sun. Episode 2: she confesses she's been watching him since the wedding, three years ago. Before he can answer, his wife calls to ask for cookies.

Why it earns its number

The sick-wife setup is a neat comic engine, because the person who should be keeping watch is the one who sent them off together. Add a tropical resort and a stepdaughter with a three-year secret, and the series balances guilt and mischief nicely.

Who should collect it: For collectors who like a holiday where the rules relax with the weather and everybody pretends it's just a coincidence.
