Her Stepmom Is the Boss

The setup

Jake's girlfriend talks her stepmother into hiring him, with a warning attached: don't embarrass her. Margot Vey is the boss, the whole floor answers to her, and in episode 1 Jake is the only person in the conference room brave enough to tell her slide four is wrong. Everyone else is dismissed and Margot suggests he stay late. When his girlfriend calls to say she's nearly there, he panics. Episode 2 has Jake lying about working late while Margot locks the door, promises to protect his job, and takes a phone call from her stepdaughter as sweetly as a saint.

Why it earns its number

Stepmom is a crowded set, but this series layers two kinds of authority: she's the stepmother and the boss, and Jake can never forget either title. The office adds a ticking clock, with every meeting and every call from his girlfriend becoming a risk.

Who should collect it: For collectors who like a workplace power game with a polished, in-charge heroine and a hero who keeps saying yes.
